This session, informed by Ted George and Ekpedeme Wade, introduces us to the origin points of addiction in the life of the individual, answering the question, "How does a person become addicted to something?"

This plenary session opens with a spoken word poem "Talk Ugly to Me" by Joesph Green. Click this link to view: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK85WinWQM4&list=PL-I0gQ6ltp4XJB11bsLfBLZgnBIcD0vpk

We delve into the deep-seated causes of addiction in the individual and explore how it often stems from a profound sense of brokenness in our world. This session encourages us to confront the harsh reality that addiction is usually a means of escaping from pervasive darkness and disillusionment. We aim to unravel the intricate web of physical, mental, spiritual, and emotional struggles underlying addiction, delving not only into how addiction takes hold but also the cognitive, physical, and spiritual processes individuals undergo while grappling with this complex challenge. By facing these dimensions, even when it's easier to look away, we can gain a deeper understanding of addiction, fostering empathy and developing a more nuanced approach to healing and providing support.
